I believe the current environment though offer many challenges, seldom provides a best way forward; - be it planning a new project, be it preparing a new proposal, be it presenting a demo and getting an order etc.,
I was contemplating on finding out a method forward that will provide a measurement in itself to ensure that effort that is put in for any of the above tasks can be mapped and measured against a "Best Effort" scoring;
What does "Best Effort" means ? it may mean many things to many;
The simplest of the definition is that "Best Effort" should reflect a fail-proof execution approach in the context of individuals capabilities; For example, say you fix a demonstration to your customer at your office in the early morning and when the customer arrives you find a multiple failure of power not being there, Internet fails, and evidently your coffee machine as well;
Any one of the above would have given you a quick rescue, where-as a multiple items would definitely call for your in-depth preparation and a "Fail-proof" attitude. In my definition, the "Best Effort" means over-coming this and ensuring that the scheduled agenda of the works gets completed with less bleeding.
Map the above situation to a target fulfillment scenario of a sales man, you will find that achieving the targets calls for similar "Best Effort" where an in-depth identification of fail-points will bring that much closure to you achieving the desired results.
You can practice this in your day-to-day actions, map each of your tasks (Major ones atleast) against the "Best effort" that you have put in for a successful closure. Many a times you can observe, that you would got thru 100 % success basis your preparedness and deployment of the "Best Efforts" & not just acting with your physical efforts.
Hence, it is time that you change your efforts deployment from Physical to "BEST";
All the very Best.
